CZ Says “Tokenize Everything” With BNB Chain RWA Holders Surging 370% to 776K

CZ Says “Tokenize Everything” With BNB Chain RWA Holders Surging 370% to 776K

Key Takeaways:

  • Binance founder, Changpeng Zhao, called upon nations and enterprises to tokenize assets for more global capital inflows and foreign direct investment.
  • Though fragmented liquidity may be a challenge, CZ supports tokenization on multiple blockchains.
  • The 776,000 RWA holders on the BNB Chain correspond to an increase of approximately 370% in 30 days.

Changpeng Zhao is pushing for broader tokenization as real-world assets gain traction across blockchain networks. His comments came after BNB Chain highlighted a sharp increase in the number of wallets holding tokenized real-world assets.

CZ Sees Tokenization as a Capital Magnet

“Let’s tokenize everything,” CZ wrote on X, arguing that tokenization could give countries and companies a new way to attract foreign capital.

In his view, putting assets such as stocks on blockchain networks could allow issuers to reach investors beyond their domestic markets. That could make tokenization an attractive tool for companies seeking capital and countries looking to bring in foreign investment.

But not all traders are foreign direct investors because of tokenization of assets. FDI generally involves a lasting interest in a foreign company, while smaller purchases of tokenized securities may fall under portfolio investment instead.

Investor rights, ownership and disclosure and cross border access would still be matters of the law in each case.

CZ Accepts the Liquidity Fragmentation Risk

CZ also made the point that tokenized assets should not be confined on just one blockchain. Despite the downside of creating liquidity fragmentation between different ecosystems, he advocates for development activity in different networks.

Diffused liquidity may increase the difficulties for searching counterparties and may lead to trading depth or price dispersion variations between similar assets.

CZ says more interchangeability in issuers could help solve the issue. In practice, that would entail ensuring the same assets’ ownership, redemption and settlement processes across the various networks.

This is part of a larger race amongst RWA ecosystems to own the increasing market. Several platforms are developing infrastructure for tokenized securities, funds, credit products, or essentially any financial asset, instead of waiting for any network to dominate the terrain.

BNB Chain Reports 776K RWA Holders

In a recent post, BNB Chain noted that the number of active real-world asset (RWA) holders on its network reached 776,000, increasing by around 370% in a span of 30 days.

The point is that when this infrastructure and product becomes available, participation in tokenized-asset markets can rapidly grow. Nevertheless, wallet count measures aren’t always a one-to-one map of individual investors, as users can be in control of several wallet addresses.

The expansion has not led to a rise in foreign investment in all the assets being tokenized. What each token is worth and who it’s for, and its legal position, remain subject to the product and its originator.

CZ did not state the name of the tokenization project, the government partnering, or a particular date of launch.
