Ethereum, Ether, ETH, altcoins, everyday people
As the number two cryptocurrency (by market capitalization) enjoys its bull run, Ethereum’s transition from altcoin (any coin that is not Bitcoin) to its sustainable ecosystem has been a fascinating journey.
The (recently launched) Pectra upgrade sits well with the ETH community, boosting its price from (prelaunch) just under $1,800 to over $2,500, a level it hasn’t seen since late February 2025.
I have followed Ethereum’s journey since entering the Cryptoverse in 2022, and I believe its founders have positioned the digital asset to be the coin of the future for everyday people.

Ethereum, the everyday people’s coin?
Each upgrade involves technical improvements that are difficult for everyday people to understand, but they increase blockchain’s scalability (the speed at which a transaction is finalized).
For example, the Shapella upgrade 2023 moved Ethereum from a proof-of-work (PoW) or mining system to a proof-of-stake (PoS ) system, where validators hold a certain amount of Ethereum.
