At least two people have been killed and at least fifteen injured after Ukraine bombed a sanatorium in Crimea, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Sunday.
According to Crimean regional head Sergey Aksenov, a school building was also hit during the attack.
“As a result of the terrorist attack, according to preliminary information, two civilians were killed and 15 people were injured to varying degrees of severity,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement on its official Telegram channel.
The Ukrainian strike targeted a “resort area of the Republic of Crimea, where there are no military facilities,” it added.
Aksenov said that he would be personally monitoring the situation.
“Emergency services are working on scene, and people are receiving all necessary assistance,” he said, adding: “Please remain calm and trust only official information.”
In the peninsula’s largest city, Sevastopol, regional head Mikhail Razvozhaev reported that the Russian Black Sea fleet and air defenses are defending against a Ukrainian drone attack near the city.
“3 drones have been shot down so far,” he said on Telegram on Sunday.
