If you’ve heard the term “Web3” and immediately tuned out, you’re not alone. It sounds like yet another overhyped tech buzzword, another thing Silicon Valley bros talk about while cashing in on something the rest of us don’t understand. But Web3 isn’t just about crypto, NFTs, or digital speculation — it’s about ownership, privacy, and the future of the internet.

Right now, most of the internet is controlled by a handful of corporations — Google, Facebook (Meta), Amazon, and a few others. They own the platforms where we spend most of our time, meaning they dictate the rules, collect our data, and profit from our activity.

Web3 aims to change that. Instead of centralized control, Web3 uses blockchain technology to create decentralized systems. That means users — not corporations — own and control their data, digital assets, and even the platforms themselves.
